Description: The challenge for this busy young family was to unify the space by rehabilitating the existing structures (porch, deck, shed and tree house), consolidate the many existing native plants, capture rainfall run-off, and address the narrow entrance. The landscape plan took into consideration the many underground streams found in this area of the Coastal Plain region, creating a dry creekbed that directs rainfall to the existing River Birch, now featured prominently in the front of the property. A cedar boardwalk follows the 'desire path' to the front entrance, and the placement of the stream and new plants reflect the unique curve of the front property line. The Chokecherries are a nod to the family's Toronto roots, and an 'Inukshuk' sculpture is planned at the entrance to the youngest family member's very own rock garden.
